PlantDNA ("we", "us") is a plant identification app that helps you identify plants and learn about their care, wildlife value, and general characteristics. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and your rights.
PlantDNA does not require you to create an account, and we do not collect your name, email address, or any other directly identifying information.
When you scan a plant, the photo(s) you take or select are sent securely to our identification service so the plant can be identified. These photos are processed in memory only — we do not store your photos on our servers, before or after identification.
Your photo(s) are shared with Kindwise (FlowerChecker s.r.o.), our third-party plant identification provider, solely to identify the plant species. Under Kindwise's terms, they may use submitted photos to improve their machine learning models. For details, see Kindwise's Privacy Policy.
We also use Anthropic Claude to generate general plant care and safety information. Claude does not receive your photos or any personal data — only the identified plant species name is passed for enrichment.
Saved scan history (your past photos and results) is stored only on your own device and is never uploaded to our servers.
The app uses two anonymous identifiers, neither of which is linked to your name, email, or any other personal information:
We retain these identifiers and associated usage counts (e.g. "10 lifetime scans used", "20 credits remaining") on our servers for as long as needed to provide the service.
If you purchase additional scan credits, the purchase is processed by Apple's App Store and by RevenueCat, which we use to validate purchases. We do not receive or store your payment details.
Because PlantDNA doesn't use accounts, the most relevant control is the data stored on your own device. You can clear your local scan history at any time from within the app's settings. If you'd like us to delete the usage/credit record associated with a specific device identifier from our servers, you can contact us using the details below and we will action this within a reasonable time.
If you are in the UK or EU, you have rights under GDPR / UK GDPR including the right to access, correct, or erase your data, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
PlantDNA is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
